Common Questions
Chemical Peel FAQs
What do chemical peels treat?
Chemical peels address a wide range of skin concerns including acne, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, uneven texture, and dullness. By removing the outermost layers of skin, peels reveal fresher, healthier skin beneath and stimulate cellular renewal.
Is there downtime after a chemical peel?
Downtime depends on the peel depth. Light peels may cause mild redness and flaking for 2–3 days. Medium peels can involve 5–7 days of peeling. Your provider will select the appropriate peel and prepare you for what to expect.
How often can I get a chemical peel?
Light peels can be performed monthly. Deeper peels are typically done 2–4 times per year. Your provider will design a peel protocol based on your skin goals and tolerance.
Can I wear makeup after a chemical peel?
We recommend avoiding makeup for at least 24 hours after a peel, and longer for medium-depth peels. Allowing the skin to breathe and heal without occlusion produces the best results.
Are chemical peels safe for sensitive skin?
Yes — when properly selected and administered. We carry ZO® Skin Health peels in varying strengths and formulations, allowing us to customize the treatment to your skin's tolerance and goals.
How do ZO® peels differ from spa peels?
ZO® Skin Health peels are medical-grade formulations developed by Dr. Zein Obagi. They penetrate more effectively than typical spa peels, delivering measurable, lasting results rather than temporary surface improvements.
